Went to see Chicago the other day. The Australian production for readers from other countries. It was... good. But it wasn't great.
Perhaps I am being a little more critical because I knew the musical, have seen other productions and I thought they could just do a little bit more.
No doubt the singing and the dancing were fantastic. No doubt the live band/orchestra did a great job. The cast were wonderful.
Stage design was what lacked, and perhaps a little more on the costumes too.
The only time we had some colour and light were during the trial, but I thought a lot more could have impressed more.
I wanted to see the bling, the bang and the dazzle, as what Chicago should have been. There needed to be a lot more wow, and a lot more ooh and ahhhs. A lot more sparkle.
Or am I just being a traditionalist?
