Let politicians be politicans

I can't help but notice the increase in publicity on politicians personal interests, love life and their possessions, more so than what their policies and ideas on how to manage the country well.

It's ridiculous. If you think of a country as an organisation or business, which it essentially is - the politicians are the 'managers' or 'administrators' of the organisation or business. Since when do we care if our manager drives a more expensive car than us? Since when did we care if one of the financial controllers had an affair with the office admin from the other department? As long as they are doing their job, I personally think it's pretty much their business what they want to do in their free time.

I mean, as long as they are not engaged in a criminal activity, does it really matter if Malcolm Turnbull's house is worth more than it cost? If he was just someone else down the road we wouldn't even give a damn. More importantly, what does that piece of information mean? Having a house that increased in value doesn't make him any better or worse in politics. He is just a lucky man that made the right choices at the right times.

As we all do.

And stop bitching about Kevin not being in the country. It is a prime minister's job to work with the international community to both secure our nation's interests as well as make allies in times of trouble. There is a reason why prime minister has a list of people to help him with the government, a reason why there is a minister for everything from education to environment, is so that he can concentrate on his job while still being able to give directions over the distance for others to continue the work. Australia needs the international interest, being so far away from everything else, we need the presence in the global community to be able to make a difference. Why let the US and China have all the fun? And would they be happy if Ruddy just sent a minister to meet all these high up powers instead of going himself?

Media is a terrible source for raising the wrong concerns in the public, and all these criticisms that he is not doing enough is just rubbish. Things change slowly, any educated persons would know. For a family of four to adapt to a new habit would probably take a good 6 months, how long did you think changing the way a country is to make it better is going to take? Is Ruddy not doing enough, or are we not doing enough to support him?

Don't forget, he can have all the ideas and the initiation to start something, but it's for us to accept and learn that with any changes there will be drawbacks, but we all have to start somewhere.
