It's an hour and a half before the Earth Hour. I am impressed this initiative has taken off since last year, when a couple a Sydney-siders decided to start the campaign, and now for the 20 hours after Sydney's Earth Hour, many cities in the world will join in in the fight against global warming.
I personally think we should have a day like this once a month. It's such a nice thing to be in the dark, burning candles and really just catch on with real life. Have a real chat with your family and neighbours rather than each of you stick to your own little electronic world, whether it be the computer, the tv or an iPod forever stuck in your ears.
I also think we need to start doing more than this. Stop driving so much and campaign for the government to increase the number of public transport options and decrease its prices. We need to introduce charging for plastic bags and encourage everyone to bring their own bags shopping. We need to start understanding what in our homes can be used as compost, such as toilet papers, cat litter, left over foods and other organic products. Start recycling more. Start walking or cycling more (which is good for our health anyway) and start smiling more :)
So after this Earth Hour, think about what else you can do for the environment. I know you might feel that very tiny little part you can do may not help a lot, but every individual counts. If we have 100 households doing the right things, that's 100 green households in the world good for the environment!
